San pedro cacti.
San Pedro Cactus.
Trichocereus Pachanoi is native to the Andes.
It is easy to grow and is very hardy. This columnar cactus can grow a foot per year
and they can reach over 15 feet in height. The rooted cuttings are great for children as they will soon start growing, even in the UK.
The San Pedro is ribbed and branching and
they normally have 6 to 8 ribs. 'San Pedro' was named after Saint Peter,
supposedly because he consumed loads.
Trichocereus Pachanoi has been known and used
ceremonialy for over 3000 years. There is some evidence that suggests 'San Pedro'
was being cultivated in Peru from around 2200BC. T.peruvianus truxillensis is said to be the strongest.
A great plant for inner city farmers, but dont water it too much. Matures easily in Western Europe.

You can make a refreshing soap from the powdered San Pedro(stocks are low) and the dried tissue is great for Potpourri.
We read that Hippies in the 60s used to go to the desert, chop these up, boil them down for 8 hours and they drank what was left over.
The video below features a Peyote Trip, but you get the idea(hosted on youtube).
We have read that Shamen report a very vivid visual trip. The visions can last upto 8 hours and they can have a lasting effect on your life.
This coupled with the fact they can make you puke up if ingested keeps their consumption to Indians, Shamen and Voodoo Witch doctors.
San Pedro are fun to grow though. They contain; mescaline, tyramine, 3-methoxytyramine and 3-4-dimethoxyphenethylamine.
