Falmouth is located on the south coast of Cornwall and is famous for its harbour.
Falmouth is also famous for being the start or finish point of various round-the-world record breaking voyages, such as those of Sir Francis Chichester.
Good beaches are to be found under the cliff tops, and the castle tower gives good views. The town was established by the Killigrew family,
who were pirates and smugglers. Much of the architecture is late 18th and early 19th century, though the popularity of Falmouth among the
sailing fraternity has led to a plethora of new building.
Historic buildings worth seeing include the castle, customs house and Grove Hill House.
Whilst Falmouth is important as a port with boat building, shipping maintenance and dry dock facilities, and an increasing leisure boating market, tourism has become the town's major source of income. From Pendennis Castle to bowling, from a pleasure cruise to see the wildlife of the River Fal to viewing an art gallery, from sunbathing on the beach to going to the theatre, Falmouth in Cornwall has something to offer everyone.
