Helston is a quaint old Cornish town, centuries ago Helston was a thriving port. Helston has a Victorian Guildhall and a fine Regency Church whose churchyard contains the grave of one of the towns most famous sons, the engineer Henry Trengrouse (1772-1854), who pioneered the rocket-firing apparatus used by lifeboatmen and coastguards. It is also the home of the Furry Dance, which is held each year, on Flora Day the 8th May, when dancers in costume, dance through the decorated streets, gardens and shops.

The Tourist Information Centre (Tel:01326 565431) in Helston is situated close to the main shopping area at 79 Meneage Street. .Helston Folk Museum is situated behind the Guildhall. The museum is crammed with memorabilia tracing the history of the town from as far back as the bronze Age. Entry to the museum is free.
